WWE has been reluctant to medically clear superstar Daniel Bryan for a return to the ring but according to a source with knowledge of the situation, the chance of WWE clearing Bryan is “at it’s highest”.
WWE has reportedly also tossed the idea around of a Shane McMahon vs. Daniel Bryan match at WrestleMania 34 with the thinking that it could be an easier “spot match” for Bryan’s return.
Bryan has been pushing for clearance to return to the ring but WWE has been resistant, keeping him in his current role as SmackDown Live General Manager.
But, WWE is keeping open a possible storyline for Bryan as he has been at odds with SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon from time-to-time, with the most recent settling of differences occurring on Tuesday’s night’s edition of Smackdown.
WWE is entertaining the thought, is aware of outside interest in Bryan due to his contract expiring next year and is reluctant to let Bryan walk over to promotions such as ROH and NJPW who would greatly benefit from the edition of a star of Bryan’s magnitude.
While the source indicated that the odds of WWE medical clearing Bryan is “at it’s highest”, it is unclear just how serious WWE is about Bryan’s return to the ring under the WWE banner.
Still, there is an interest in a potential Bryan/McMahon showdown at WrestleMania and storylines may lead us to just that.
