The Mariners have acquired second baseman Dee Gordon from the Marlins, in exchange for 3 prospects. 2 of whom are pitching prospects, Nick Neidert and Robert Dugger. Both have been quite impressive so far in their minor league careers. The Marlins will also receive a shortstop prospect, Christopher Torres.

Given that the Mariners have second base and shortstop locked up by Robinson Cano and Jean Segura, Seattle will try Dee Gordon in center field. Gordon has never played in center at all in his professional career.

The Mariners have also received more international bonus pool money, once again $1 millon. We know this money is to help lure in the incoming Japanese phenom Shohei Ohtani.

Seattle sees Dee Gordon as their leadoff hitter, and that given his speed he can be a very big asset in center field.
