Holly Holm Returns To Bantamweight Division, Will Headline UFC Singapore with Bethe Correia.

On June 17, 2017, the UFC will be in Singapore for UFC Fight Night 111. Holly “The Preachers Daughter” Holm (10-3) will headline the event with Brazilian Brawler Bethe “Pitbull” Correia (10-2-1).

Holm makes her return to the bantamweight division for this contest, a division she once ruled as champion. Holm was able to pull off one of the greatest upsets in MMA history when she knocked out MMA Legend “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey with a devastating headkick that sent Rousey to the canvas, handing her the first loss of her professional MMA career.

After the brilliant performance turned in by Holm that night, many people assumed she would rule the bantamweight division for some time. However, just a few short months later, Holm would defend her title against Rousey’s longtime rival Miesha “Cupcake” Tate at UFC 196.

The fight made it to the fifth and final round before Tate was able to take control of Holly’s back and submit her by rear-naked choke with just 1:30 remaining in the bout.

Since losing her title to Tate, Holm has stepped into the octagon twice more, losing both bouts by unanimous decision after five rounds. UFC on Fox 20 was headlined by Holm and Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko (14-2). Shevchenko out struck Holm throughout the fight and earned the unanimous decision victory.

This past February, Holm moved up to featherweight to take on Germaine “The Iron Lady” De Randamie (7-3) for the women’s featherweight title, in the debut of the women’s featherweight division at UFC 208. After five rounds of fighting and a couple of late punches by De Randamie, Holm again found herself on the losing end of her third straight fight.

Holm’s opponent Bethe Correia has had one victory in the her last four fights. After a KO loss to Ronda Rousey at UFC 190 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Correia went on to fight Raquel “Rocky” Pennington at UFC on Fox 19. After three rounds, a split decision victory was awarded to Pennington, thus handing Correia the first losing streak of her MMA career.

On September 10, 2016 at UFC 203, Correia got back on track after defeating Jessica Eye by split-decision victory. After the victory, Correia would take on American Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 106 in Brazil. After three intense rounds, including heavy punching and strong grappling by both fighters, the contest was declared a majority decision draw, much to the dismay of the Brazilian crowd.

UFC Singapore will present both Holm and Correia with the opportunity they need to get things back on track and headed towards another shot at the bantamweight title.

This card also features former Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos as he makes his welterweight debut against a very game Tarec “Sponge” Saffiedine (16-6). Dos Anjos, however, feels that this could be the beginning of a successful run at 170 pounds.

As the card continues to come together, UFC Singapore looks to be an event that will have the crowd entertained throughout the night.
