Manchester United Are One Foot In The Europa League Final

Manchester United are one step closer to the ¬†Europa League final after a 1-0 away win against Celta Vigo. Through a superb free-kick by United’s young star Marcus Rashford, United are on the driving seat. The 19 year old curled in a stunning shot which sealed the victory.

The Europa League first leg semi-final match saw United waste chances during the first half of the game. Celta Vigo keeper Sergio Alvarez kept three shots at bay from Manchester United strikers. He was the busiest keeper of the night with constant pressure coming from united.

United earned a precious away goal which gives them an advantage into the second leg of the semi-final next week. The 67th minute second half goal was vital to United against Celta Vigo in the race for the Europa League final spot. The Europa League is the only chance which can earn United a place for next season’s Champions League.

The first half saw United miss several chances through Jesse Lingard who’s shot was cleared by Celta Vigo’s keeper. Rashford also had his shot cleared by Alvarez when he tried to hit the top corner. Lingard also missed a clear chance when Rashford played in a great pass but coul not put the ball past Celta’s keeper.

In the second half Celta improved and created several chances but could not trouble united’s keeper Sergio Romero. Celta’s chances came through former Liverpool player Iago Aspas and Daniel Wass who headed wide. Pione Sisto’s deflected shot was cleared by United’s keeper Romero during the second half.

Injury Concerns for United

Manchester United’s injury woes continued when Ashley Young limped off with what appeared to be an hamstring injury. Young had just came in as a substitute for Mkhitaryan for 11 minutes only to limp off with an injury. Young had to substituted by Chris Smalling who is coming back from injury. Smalling has been out since 19th March with a knee injury.

United’s manager Jose Mourinho was pleased with the performance but not the results according to the BBC. He feels United could have had three goals during the first half of the game. Mourinho spoke during the press conference after the match against Celta Vigo. He is a bit concerned with the hectic schedule United still have.

United will face their arch rivals Arsenal on Sunday before a second leg tie with Celta Vigo on Thursday. This is a bit of concern for the Manager who feels his players deserve a bit of rest. The Europa League tie with Celta Vigo is very important to Mourinho and not the Premier Laegue match with Arsenal.

A win or draw at Old Trafford against Celta Vigo will earn United a Europa League final ticket. There is concern that Rashford will not be on the injury list. Rashford Limped off the pitch and was substituted Anthony Martial. The concern is that he could miss the second leg tie on Thursday.

Manchester United will hope for a good result during the second leg of the Europa League at Old Trafford. This is a chance for United to bring back the European glory to Old Trafford.
