The Baltimore Orioles are about to cash in as a least 3 teams are all bidding to acquire close Zach Britton ahead of the trade deadline.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports mentioned the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros as teams linked to Britton.
Although Britton has only appeared in a limited number of games this season due to injury he is widely considered one of the top closers in the majors.
Britton has posted a 3.32 ERA with a 1.74 WHIP in 19 innings of work and has converted all eight of his save opportunities.
ESPN’s Buster Olney reported a source said he would be “shocked” if Britton is not traded before the 4 p.m. ET deadline.
Heyman reported that the Orioles are seeking “top, top guy” in return for Britton.
“I’ve been here plenty of times now. I understand that the play on the field is the most important thing, and there’s a lot of things now with social media and things get out there that aren’t necessarily true, so you go with it, you don’t get sucked into it,” Britton said to the Washington Post recently.
“A lot of the times it can affect the things that you do out on the field if you get wrapped up in it. So I’m going to avoid it until something happens or doesn’t happen and move on.”
Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal reported that Houston has a deal “close”.
