Are There Options To Keep Dolphins Season Alive?

Dolphins fans have been riding high for the past few months. They got great news in May with news of quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s knee being 100% heeled and strong.

In OTA’s Tannehill was looking like the leader that they hoped he would become firing on all cylinders and hitting his receivers in stride while leading the offense like a veteran QB.

The first week of training camp was nothing different. He was scrambling and throwing tight coverage and showing promise in the second year in Gase’s offense.

The first week had fans believing that the change is real and that the 10-6 record from last year was not just by luck and in one scramble to the right and all of that had fans scrambling themselves.

Fans rushing to twitter and social media outlets trying to find the latest news on what was happening to their QB.

The Dolphins are fearing for the worst as it is looking like Tannehill might have to have season ending knee surgery to repair the left knee. So, what are the options?

First option should be Jay Cutler. Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel believes that Gase would be more inclined to pull Cutler out of retirement and into a Dolphins uniform.

I would have to agree for the one fact that Gase is familiar with Cutler and he knows what Cutler can do as a QB.

This helps in the learning curve when looking at the offense. From what sources are saying Cutler wants starting QB money which could be one of the down sides to signing him and ultimately be the reason Miami passes.

Second option is Colin Kaepernick.

A quarterback who once led his team to a Superbowl under Jim Harbaugh to a QB who is struggling to find work because of his political views and actions.

Now don’t get me wrong I don’t endorse anything that Kaepernick has done but if you look at things from a football standpoint this signing makes a lot of sense.

Kaepernick had good stats last year on a poor team and was not the reason why the 49ers were losing. He had 16 TDs to 4 INTs for just over 2000 yards. He is a similar QB as Tannehill so from a play calling standpoint there is not a lot of change. He can extend the play with his legs and he has experience. He would also come cheap because unless I am missing something there isn’t a lot of people picking up the phone for his services.

Other options are guys like Shaun hill, RGIII, and Johnny Manziel. While these options don’t scream excellent I also don’t believe any of them can beat out current back up QB Matt Moore if Tannehill is out for the Season.

There is a crazy option and that is giving former DC Vance Joseph who is currently the Head Coach of the Denver Broncos a call and see what they would want for young QB Paxton Lynch.

I loved this kid coming out of college and if Gase is worried about Tannehill’s future it might be a good idea to invest in Miami’s future if they need to move on.

This is all worst-case scenario for the Miami Dolphins who are hoping for the best and fearing for the worst.

We will soon know in the coming days the severity of the knee injury. The good news in all of this is that it comes with four weeks before the season so if they need to get someone ready to start they have some time.
