WWE Smackdown vs. Raw: Who Won this Week? November 6, 2017

The Good

For Raw, we have new Tag Team Champions! Sheamus and Cesaro were able to take advantage of a distraction by the New Day to beat Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to become the three time Raw Tag Team Champions! This was a great match between these teams (as always) and the New Day distraction may lay out for a New Day versus the Shield match at Survivor Series, which would be awesome to see! This also means that the team of Cesaro and Sheamus will now face the Usos at Survivor Series, which should be a great match as well!

For Smackdown, we have a new WWE champion! AJ Styles was able to defeat Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship and now it looks like we will have AJ Styles versus Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series! This overall was a pretty good match to watch but the end result is what is really great about this. AJ Styles has been the best superstar WWE has had since he made his debut in January of 2016 and now he is a two time champion. Along with that, Brock Lesnar facing AJ Styles sounds like a much better matchup than it did with Jinder Mahal. This was a risky move considering it is only two weeks before Survivor Series, but I’m sure nobody in the WWE Universe is complaining.

The Bad

For Raw, who knows what they plan on doing with Asuka. They had her face another jobber this week and she beat her quickly and this just felt like filler on the show. We all knew that Asuka was dominant in NXT, and we should see that dominance be exerted on the main roster. So far, the only actual superstar she has faced was Emma, who isn’t even with the company anymore. While I hope to see a good performance out of her at Survivor Series, the buildup to her going into this match has been very weak.

For Smackdown, the inter-gender match between James Ellsworth and Becky Lynch was…..for a lack of a better word, stupid.  This went on way too long and was just painful to watch. While it was funny that Ellsworth lost the match, this was just a bad idea from start to finish.

The Final Verdict

Overall, both shows threw curveballs at the WWE Universe this week. Both shows had title changes and still been able to build up the matches for Survivor Series in the process. This week though, I will have to give to Smackdown. When you have a new WWE Champion crowned, that has all the makings of being the better show. Smackdown isn’t finished either as they announced that next week there will be a United States Championship match between Baron Corbin and Sin Cara along with a Women’s championship match between Natalya and Charlotte Flair! But, Raw has done a great job of getting prepared for the Men’s elimination match and it is only a matter of time before the Shield retaliates against the New Day so it should be very interesting to see where this all leads to. In conclusion, both shows were great in building up Survivor Series, but as far as shock factor and preparing for the future, Smackdown has a better plan laid out.
