The scholarship offers are flying in for Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei tight end Michael Martinez, who is considered one of the hottest prospects out West.
Mate Dei had their College Showcase on Thursday and many of the nation’s top programs were in attendance to check in on the talented tight end, including Alabama.
Alabama, along with Utah, extended offers to Martinez, who is 6-6, 250 pounds, following the camp showcase.
“They had a couple of coaches out here watching me and they said they liked me and went ahead and offered so that was great.
“Utah is a great school and I talked with coach (Fred) Whittingham who offered me. I for sure have interest in Utah, right now, I have interest in all of the schools that have offered me and looking forward to learning more about them.”
Martinez also received offers from USC and LSU.
“I’m interested in both programs,” Martinez said about the offers. “I don’t know much about LSU but I do know they have a great program in the SEC.
“I just visited USC a couple of weeks ago and really liked what they had to say and their plan for me. They talked about how they want to develop me as my body grows and how they can make me a better player. I plan to visit again and do the whole campus tour and meet with the coaches.”
