Rutgers Dismisses K.J. Gray, Brendan DeVera For Violations

Rutgers head coach Chris Ash has dismissed safety K.J. Gray and linebacker Brendan DeVara from the Scarlet Knights for rules violations, according to ESPN’s Dan Murphy.

Gray started four games at safety as a sophomore last season and was projected to take over full-time as the starter this season after leading the Rutgers’ secondary with 58 tackles in 2017.

“I wish Rutgers nothing but the best of luck on this season, and I know they will do great this year,” Gray said on his Twitter page. “I want to thank everybody on the team for welcoming me with open arms and building some friendships that will last a lifetime.”

DeVara played in 11 games last year as a true freshman and was expected to be a defensive and special teams contributor this season.

“I would like to re open my recruitment at this time,” DeVera said on Twitter. “It’s not over.”
